Mackay Breast Cancer Support Group

Our breast cancer support group is led by 2 great women; a breast cancer fighter and a woman who has vast experience in fitting bras and prostheses in Mackay.  Our group is for women of all ages who have, at some stage in their life, been diagnosed with breast cancer.  We welcome women at any stage of the cancer journey. Attendees come from Mackay, Sarina, Whitsundays, Nebo and surrounding areas.

The group holds a monthly support group meeting in Mackay on the second Saturday of the month from 9.00am to 12:00pm in the Meeting Room at the Mackay Botanical Gardens, Lagoon St, Mackay, QLD.

The monthly meeting is an opportunity for women to connect and share their cancer journey, in a welcoming, private and supportive space, allowing women a voice to share and receive support from others in the same circumstances.

Tiana Fry and Deb Lebsanft run the support group, together offering an environment where women going through the breast cancer journey can feel less alone and give and receive support to each other. Tiana was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018 and her journey included bilateral mastectomy, auxiliary clearance, chemo and radiation, and then ongoing hormone blocking treatment. She understands first-hand the breast cancer journey and recognises the immense value of having this support group.

We aim to have at least 2 getaways per year where a number of women take a couple of days 'time out' on a fully paid for retreat. This is made possible by the fundraising of a few precious supporters that we have.  These retreats are 'just what the doctor ordered'!!  They provide a great opportunity for women to have time to themselves when they are not wife, mum, boss, staff, taxi driver etc.  They can get away and enjoy the close, supportive bond that the group provides with the other women.
