Help Bakers Delight get around BCNA this May for their annual Pink Bun campaign
For three weeks, from 9 May – 29 May, 516 Bakers Delight bakeries around the country will turn pink in support of all Australians affected by breast cancer.
100% of the sales from every Fun Bun and BCNA's popular beanies will be donated to BCNA – along with $1.00 from every tote bag purchased.
This year’s campaign shares the stories of BCNA members Sam, Jill and Kansas as they talk about the challenges of their breast cancer diagnosis and how BCNA was able to support them through it.
You can help by getting around Bakers Delight and the Pink Bun Campaign this May. Simply head into your local Bakers Delight between 9 and 29 May and purchase a 6 pack of Fun Buns, BCNA beanie and/or tote bag and help BCNA support others in your community affected by breast cancer.
The faces of this year's campaign – Kansas, Sam, and Jill – share their personal stories and shine a light on how BCNA has supported each of them through their breast cancer experiences. They were joined by BCNA staff who supported them in some way on their respective journeys.
Kansas, who was diagnosed at just 24 years of age, drove up from rural Victoria to take part. It was BCNA’s Pink Lady Match that reminded her to book in with her GP to get a lump checked. Following the resulting breast cancer diagnosis Kansas relied on BCNA’s online resources including the My Journey app to keep track of symptoms and prepare for medical appointments.
Sam from Canberra is a First Nations woman and mum of five who was diagnosed with breast cancer at 39 years of age. Sam contacted our free Helpline to share a very confronting experience when she went through airport screening with a prosthesis. BCNA subsequently advocated on her behalf for better training of airport staff in these circumstances so that others may be spared the same humiliating experience.
Jill from Perth was diagnosed with metastatic or incurable breast cancer in her early 50s. Jill is just one of our members to have benefitted from BCNA’s advocacy work, as she her medication is now subsidised on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). BCNA advocated to the government for this drug to be listed, inspiring Jill who has since become a Consumer Representative in BCNA’s Seat at the Table program.
