BCNA would like to congratulate all candidates elected by their local communities and the Australian Labor Party (ALP) on forming government.
We are looking forward to working with them on the implementation of their policy announcements that impact breast cancer treatment and care.
- Medication price reduction - The ALP committed to reducing the cost of prescription medicines by lowering the co-payment cost for drugs currently on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).
- Rural health funding - The ALP made a funding commitment to bolster the rural health workforce to ensure patients living in these areas have improved access to vital services.
BCNA will continue to advocate for improvements to Australia’s healthcare system and health policies in the interests of people diagnosed with breast cancer.
We established six priority areas, including 17 specific recommendations, in our Election Manifesto that aim to address the key challenges being faced by our members.
- Improve mental health support for those with cancer
- Reduce the financial burden of breast cancer
- Invest in COVID-19 health system recovery and future sustainability
- Lead reform in breast cancer early detection
- Collect and report optimal care data
- Best use of telehealth
