BCNA’s Director Policy, Advocacy and Support Services elected to international breast cancer body

As Australia’s leading voice for people affected by breast cancer, BCNA is proud its Director of Policy, Advocacy and Support Services, Vicki Durston, has been elected president of the General Assembly of the ABC Global Alliance.

The ABC (Advanced Breast Cancer) Global Alliance, based in Portugal, was established in 2016 as an initiative of the European School of Oncology to improve the lives of people living with metastatic breast cancer around the world and to advocate for improved access to optimal treatment and care.

 Ms Durston said central to the Alliance’s work are 10 Actions for Change, which focus on a range of issues, including improved survival from metastatic breast cancer, improved quality of life, greater access to multidisciplinary and supportive care, and the importance of treatment affordability.

The Alliance comprises more than 200 organisations and individuals from 93 countries, but there are only six Australian members, including BCNA.

Ms Durston would like to see this change.

'We are keen for more Australian individuals and organisations to join the Alliance to ensure the views and needs of Australians living with metastatic breast cancer are represented at an international level.'

The Global Alliance also provides an important opportunity for the Australian cancer sector to contribute to international efforts to improve access to care, treatment and support for people affected by metastatic breast cancer around the world.'
