BreastScreen suspends services across most of Australia
BCNA supports decisions by BreastScreen services in Victoria, Tasmania, New South Wales, South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory to suspend all breast screening to protect people from the COVID-19 coronavirus and reduce the spread. The decision is based on advice from medical experts.
We know the closure of BreastScreen clinics may cause concern for women who are due for their regular screening mammogram. It is important to remember that this is a temporary change, brought about by the current crisis. We have been advised that delaying your regular screening mammogram should not affect your breast cancer outcomes or long-term health.
While BreastScreen remains closed, we encourage you to remain breast aware. If you find a breast change that is unusual for you, contact your doctor without delay.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to call the BCNA Helpline on 1800 500 258.
