Have your say on out of pocket costs
For many years BCNA has heard from our members about the out-of-pocket costs they incur for their breast cancer treatment and care. These costs are a great source of stress and can result in financial strain for women, men and their families.
Australians who have faced large and unexpected out-of-pocket medical fees now have a chance to make a difference by sharing their experiences.
Minister for Health Greg Hunt has established an expert committee, led by the Chief Medical Officer, to investigate this issue, sometimes referred to as ‘bill shock’.
BCNA is working with the Consumers Health Forum of Australia (CHF) to ensure the committee understands the financial hardship that can result from out-of-pocket medical expenses. You can help us illustrate how bill shock affects thousands of Australians year after year by taking the CHF survey here.
We are also calling on people to share their experience of bill shock by emailing their story to firstname.lastname@example.org. These stories will help us to highlight the extent of the problem and shape solutions for the future.
