BCNA Community Liaison named in Australia Day awards
BCNA would like to congratulate Launceston Community Liaison Mandy Forteath for being awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the Australia Day round for her services to breast cancer.
Mandy was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004 and has been involved with BCNA ever since. She volunteers with the organisation as a Community Liaison, Consumer Representative and member of the Review and Survey Group. Mandy also co-chairs the Launceston Breast Cancer Network support group for women with breast cancer, liaises with Dragons Abreast North Tasmania on behalf of BCNA and spends time with people with breast cancer at all stages of their illness.
During the many years she has volunteered for BCNA, Mandy has been a dedicated organiser of numerous Mini-Fields of Women, Pink Bun festivities and other fundraising activities. Mandy was also behind the creation of a Breast Cancer Rose Bed at City Park in Launceston, with hot pink roses representing women with breast cancer and blue roses representing men with breast cancer.

BCNA also congratulates Nerida Smith, who received an OAM for her work as president of the Lymphoedema Association of Queensland. Connie Johnson, who received her OAM for services to breast cancer shortly before her death in September 2017, was also officially recognised in the Australia Day round of awards.
