Meet Lana, the face of BCNA’s 2017 Mother’s Day Appeal
Enjoying life as a new mum, breast cancer was the last thing on 27-year-old Lana’s mind.
After feeling a lump in the shower, she immediately booked an appointment with her doctor for an examination.
‘I remember clearly the look on his face when he first felt it. That look still haunts me today and I knew instantly that something was definitely not right.’
A week before Lana’s son’s first birthday, her world as she knew it changed. Instead of celebrating her little boy’s birthday, Lana faced the frightening thoughts that come with a breast cancer diagnosis.
Being located in regional Queensland, Lana often had limited support and struggled to get the right information. However, BCNA’s resources helped her at this time. The My Journey Kit empowered her to make decisions about her treatment and care, including what questions to ask her doctor.
This year, Lana will turn 30. It’s been three years since her diagnosis and she is looking forward to the greatest gift she can receive this Mother's Day – being able to spend time with her son.
'Breast cancer taught me that every day is special and another Mother’s Day with my son is the greatest gift I could receive.
‘I hope that by sharing my story I can help other women who are going through a similar situation to me and help them also receive the wonderful support I did from BCNA.’
