In the past year, the number of Australians diagnosed with breast cancer each day has increased to 53. That's why we need you to once again participate in The Pink Butcher for the month of October and help us support all Australians affected by breast cancer.

South Australian butcher Rodney’s world was turned upside down when his wife Pat was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005.

As Pat celebrated 10 years as a breast cancer survivor in 2015, Rodney saw an opportunity for butcheries to give back to their local communities.

Little did Rodney know that Sam, a breast cancer survivor and BCNA volunteer, was already turning her butchery, Seaford Gourmet Meats, pink every October.

The Australian Meat Industry Council (AMIC) brought Rodney and Sam together and thus, The Pink Butcher was born.

In October 2016, 80 independent local butchers across South Australia turned pink and raised more than $36,000 for BCNA.

AMIC saw The Pink Butcher success in South Australia as an opportunity for independent local butchers to show their support for Australians affected by breast cancer – the very people who are a key lifeline to the success of retail butchers in Australia.

AMIC has now promoted the event to butcheries across Australia, making The Pink Butcher a nationwide event in 2017.

Every day 50 Australians will hear the words, ‘You have breast cancer’.
