Care Connected Cancer Support Program

Type: This 8 week cancer support program aims to help you maintain physical wellness and manage typical side-effects, such as fatigue and appetite. Your personalised program will support you throughout your treatment and into recovery and will be delivered using video calls and other easy to use tools, meaning you can access it from nearly anywhere.

Frequency: Ongoing. Join at any time.

Eligibility: Open to anyone with a history of cancer and their carers.

Location: The program is delivered via video call - this means you can access it anywhere with an internet connection.

Cost: Eight-week rehabilitation and support program is $385. One off sessions are $120.


Dragons Abreast Australia

Type: Dragonboat racing is an aquatic sport in which a 12 metre long canoe-like boat, wide enough to sit 20 people (2 abreast) along with a sweep to steer the boat and a drummer.

Frequency: Most groups around the country offer ‘come and try’ days. Look for a location near where you live and contact them about their next dates.

Eligibility: Breast cancer survivors (and some very special supporters) of various ages from a great variety of backgrounds, athletic abilities and interests.

Heart Foundation Walking

Type: Organised walking groups.

Get On Track

Type: An online team-based challenge that uses fun and friendly competition to encourage participants to make healthier choices. Teams of up to four people progress along a virtual track by inputting their daily fruit and vegetable intake and physical activity. The more you do, the more you move!

Frequency: Join an official 6 week challenge or take part in a Create Your Own.

Lift for Life

Type: A resistance training program that involves using your own body weight or resistance equipment like a dumbbell or rubberised band.

Frequency: A series of three 8 week programs: Bronze, Silver and Gold. All sessions are run in small groups (up to 12 people).

Eligibility: People with (or at risk of developing) type 2 diabetes and other chronic conditions.

Cost: Cost can range from $3 to $15 per session.

Type: An online, evidence-based healthy lifestyle program which guides and supports participants as they learn about, and implement, healthy changes in their life.

The program includes:

  • Engaging, informative modules on a variety of topics including label reading, mindful eating and physical activity.

  • Links to helpful resources and recipes.

Optional program support including emails and motivational text messages

The PINC Cancer Rehabilitation Program

Type: Works to improve the strength, quality of life and sense of wellbeing of women diagnosed with cancer.

It is specifically designed to help maximise recovery, regain physical and emotional strength, and improve body confidence and control.

The program is delivered by certified PINC Cancer Rehab Physiotherapists and provides a full range of services designed to care, support and guide women through every stage of their treatment and recovery.

Frequency: Varies

Eligibility: Women diagnosed with cancer

Cost: The costs are approximately $70 - $90 for the first one hour assessment and $50 - $70 for individualised ongoing individual sessions.

Your local PINC & STEEL Physiotherapy clinic may also have Next Steps, PaddleOn or Pilates classes available (approx. $10 - $25) that you may be able to attend once you have been assessed.

YWCA Encore

Type: Exercise program designed for women who have experienced mastectomy, lumpectomy or breast reconstruction surgery at any time in their lives.

Frequency: 8-week water-based program

Complete a goal setting session with specific assessments to you and your journey to date. We aim to not only improve your physical health but improve your mental outlook.

Frequency:  12-week program.

Type: Individualised exercise programmes in a supervised, unintimidating and small studio setting. All sessions are tailored to you, and we work together with your health professionals to optimise your treatment, health and wellbeing.

PINC Cancer Rehabilitation

Type: Physiotherapy Pilates reformer and mat based exercise program. The PINC Cancer Rehabilitation Program is dedicated to improving whole body strength, quality of life and sense of wellbeing.

Frequency:  Ongoing; Initially 1-to-1 before moving into weekly physiotherapy sessions in 8 week blocks. 

Eligibility: Women at all stages of cancer treatment and recovery.

Restorative Yoga Therapy

iNform Health and Fitness - Oncology Specific Exercise Physiology Services

Type: Individualised exercise therapy completed in one on one sessions or group-based sessions to help you use exercise as a therapy and in general, exercise with confidence. Sessions take into account current treatment, side effects and most importantly goals and are run by specialist oncology trained exercise physiologists. Home or external programs can be written if suitable.
Frequency: iNform is open Mon - Fri 6:00am - 7:00pm and Sat 7:00am- 1:00pm. Group Classes are Mon-Thurs 1:00pm-2:00pm.

Community Health Cancer Rehabilitation Program

Type: The program is for cancer survivors who wish to improve their quality of life by gaining confidence with exercise, managing fatigue, improving nutrition and managing stress so they can get on with living.

The groups combine supervised exercises, education and discussion sessions, with self-management support in a group setting. A home exercise program is provided for all participants.

Frequency: The groups run twice a week, for 2 hours each session for six weeks.

Eligibility: Cancer survivors who have finished active treatment within the last month, up until 2 years following treatment.

Cost: $6.40 per session

Eastern Health Cancer Oncology Rehabilitation Program

Type: Group sessions that consists of one hour of tailored exercise, followed by one hour of information.

Frequency: Twice a week for seven weeks.

Eligibility: The client resides in eastern suburbs of Melbourne within the Eastern Health catchment area, has a primary diagnosis of cancer, aged 18 years and over, current physical status allows for participation in the exercise component of the program, cognitive status allows for participation in the education component of the program.

Cost: $8 per session, however fee may be waived in cases of financial hardship.

EX-MED Cancer exercise program

Type: 3 month best-practice exercise intervention. Individualised exercise prescription delivered by exercise physiologists specifically trained to deliver EX-MED Cancer; conducted in groups of 10 people with cancer at local fitness centres.

Frequency: 3 x ~1hr sessions/week.

Eligibility: People diagnosed with any type of cancer who have completed cancer treatment (surgery, chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy) within the last 12 months. Please note participants are eligible if they are currently receiving/scheduled to receive hormone therapy.

Type: Breast cancer exercise group. Group classes that offer an individually tailored exercise session to suit your goals, abilities, surgical/specialist precautions. You can expect to meet others in similar situations to yourself to share your experiences with along the way.

Type: Strength training programs specifically designed to meet the needs of older people, including:

  • Initial and ongoing assessments so your program can be tailored to your specific needs and abilities
  • Fully qualified and committed instructors
  • A safe, supportive environment

  • An opportunity to socialise over a cup of tea or coffee after each session.

Type: Individualised exercise prescription delivered and supervised by an accredited exercise physiologist and physiotherapist in a small group environment. Exercises are tailored to suit specific needs, ability and goals. Frequent wellness seminars are held throughout the program to provide education and support on a range of health topics.

Cancer Survivor Program

Type: A two part (individual and small group) health and wellbeing exercise program specifically designed to maintain and improve physical capacities while managing the debilitating effects of cancer and cancer treatment.

Eligibility: Cancer patients currently undergoing treatments.

Cost: Medicare rebates may apply if referred by a GP. Some health insurance companies also provide rebates.

Chemo Club

Type: Specially designed, exercise program

Life Now Exercise Program

Type: 12 week program, two 60-minute sessions per week.

Eligibility: For people currently undergoing or who have completed cancer treatment in the last two years and their carers.

Cost: Free to people who have undergone cancer treatment within the last two years. There may be a one off fee for initial and post assessment with the AEP (dependent upon your GP and private health care fund).

Life Now Mindfulness and Mindful Art

Type: Life Now Mindfulness is stress management program that is facilitated by an experienced instructor for two hours each week. During these sessions, participants are provided with practical coping techniques to counter the effects of cancer-related stress. Mindful Art is a meditation course that aims to improve lateral thinking, enhances visual perception and provides a tangible approach to creative thought. Art is a skill we can all learn through simple successive exercises, and in the process provide us with many positive health benefits.

Mindful art is a 6 week course, one hour class per week. No prior art experience required and anyone who attends the course will be amazed that creativity is accessible to all of us.

Frequency: 8 weeks (mindfulness) 6 weeks (mindful art).

Eligibility: People with cancer or recovering from cancer at an introductory level for 6 weeks. Carers are also welcome to attend.

Life Now Retreat Days

Type: Retreat Days showcase what our Life Now programs have to offer. Retreat Day participants have the chance to try out Life Now classes such as yoga, meditation and exercise. The day provides the opportunity to interact with others facing a similar life situation.

Eligibility: People with cancer or recovering from cancer. Carers are also welcome to attend. Priority is given to newly diagnosed patients and first time participants.

The Pink Crusaders program

Type: Group sessions run for 60 minutes in the privacy of The Studio. We keep sessions small to allow you to get the most out of the class.

Sessions involve a combination of: light resistance training, light cardio, Pilates based mat work, stretching.

Frequency: Tue and Thu 10am - 11am and 6.30pm - 7.30pm.

Eligibility: Women undergoing or recovering from breast cancer treatment.

Cost: Initial consultation - $80, single class $8.70 & 10 class pass $84.
