Special Guest Speakers
Thredbo Operations Manager
Most Australians remember Stuart Diver as the sole survivor of the 1997 Thredbo landslide. However, many don’t know that 18 years after his wife Sally was killed in the landslide, Stuart’s second wife, Rosanna, died from breast cancer. Despite the challenges he’s faced, Stuart still makes time to support organisations like BCNA, while juggling raising his seven-year-old daughter Alessia and working as Resort Operations Manager at Thredbo Resort. Stuart inspires others as he speaks openly and honestly about how he’s coped with adversity and still makes the most of every day.
Marisa Vecchio AM
Businesswoman and philanthropist
Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016
Marisa Vecchio was a national CEO, business leader and company director for nearly 20 years, winning 2004 Queensland Telstra Business Woman of the Year. Life then took her onto a new path, which included the purchase of historic Hanworth House – meticulously restored then gutted by arson in 2013.
Marisa is passionate about all things philanthropic – including Women’s Legal Service, Zonta International, Mater Hospital, Dementia Australia and Queensland Ballet. Marisa lost her mother to ovarian cancer in 2012 and was herself diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016, motivating her to work with organisations like BCNA. This work saw Marisa recognised as QCF Community Philanthropist of the Year and awarded an Order of Australia in 2017.
