Thank you lovely ladies - now just waiting to heal

Hi ladies . Thank you all for the loverly messages after my pathology results . It is so comforting to have this support and I just wish a pray that we all can have good news . I'm home today after ten days in hospital following the double mastectomy with expanders . I was so excited to see my little boy but this turned into being quite upset when I realised that I still don't have the stength and energy to look after him. I am so blessed that I have my mum to care for him but it just makes me so angry that this cancer is stopping me from being a proper mum to my little boy. Just wondering how long it took others to recover after this surgery ? And when I can be a proper mummy again . I just keep thinking that once I recover from this the chemo will start and again my little man mIsses out on his mummy . Feeling happy but sad at the same time . LOve to all you girls x

Recovery

Hi Sharon
We are all different but I will be 4 weeks post op on Tuesday and I'm returning to work tomorrow! I felt able to lift my 3 year old a few days ago.
Every day saw improvement and I was amazed at how quickly my body recovered from this operation.
I hope you have a similar experience. Rest now as you will need to be strong for your next step of treatment.

Hi Sharon, I am about 8 weeks post op and almost feel like I did pre surgery. As your little boy is so young it makes it quite difficult because so much lifting is involved. You will need to speak to your surgeon regarding how much you can lift, I was told no more than 5 kilos. My youngest is 4 and weighs about 24 kilos and although I don't need to lift her daily when we go shopping she wants to be lifted in and out of the trolley. I can and do do this now but I'm not sure how my surgeon would feel about it. Good luck with your recovery and further treatments. Lara xx

Hi Sharon

Great to hear that you are home, recovering and having your mum there to help.

It is hard after surgery, but atleast you are now home and back to some sort of "normallity". Just take it easy and don't over do it.

I didn't have a mastectomy, but after my surgery, I wasn't also allowed to lift anything for a while, then after a few weeks only upto  5 kgs.

Take care and you will be strong.

Love Julie XX
