First post op appointment

Posted by DansBoobs on 21 May 2012, 08:26AM

Off to see the oncologist this morning. It's only 5 days post op but hopefully she will have some results and I can start chemo.
Nervous as hell. Not about chemo but just about results etc....

Thinking of you this monring and how you get great results.

Waiting SUCKS the big one, it is the hardest, the just not knowing and thinking of all the worst case possibilities.

GOOD Luck for today.

Dan do you mean they didn't get clear margins??

I am so sorry to hear your news, I wish you strength today and for your surgery.  I remember when I went back for my post op appt and I got more bad news I was probably about as px@!&d off as you.

So sorry, Dan

It's not fair, Dan - but it seldom is - and in your profession you know it more than most of us.  Does your oncologist recommend a partial or full surgery ? were your nodes all right?

It's a nasty shock and you must be reeling - just get it out asap so you can start your chemo.  The starting gate has just altered a bit - you can do this!

Love and hugs,

Michelle xxx

Thanks guys

Involved margins. My oncologist spoke to the pathologist and got an interim. No formal report yet. Staining not back on lymph nodes yet.
Seeing surgeon this afternoon. In the grand scheme of things I'm still lucky.
It's just a hurdle I was kind of hoping not to have to jump.

Trying for a postitive spin

such is life's picture

I know your head is still realing and you probably still have to wait for that final path report, but here I go with trying for a little postitive spin on things, If you have to go the whole hog and have the mastectomy at least your % will be lower for ever getting it back again in that breast at least, and that can only be a good thing, sometimes it is better to start with a blank canvas and rebuild form there so to speak than  have multiple wide excisions scars and divits. Not sure if that helps or not but just know we are all feeling your frustration and anger at this    f@!#ck*n mother of a disease and our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Hi Dans, sorry to hear you need more surgery. I too had to have a second surgery, and it is a bugger. My margins were clear, as was sentinel node biopsy, but the tumour was bigger and more aggressive than they initially thought it was, so a bigger lumpectomy, or mastectomy was being discussed. Having had a bit of time to think things through, I went with the mastectomy, as I really didn't want to have radiotherapy if it could be avoided, and my boob size was only a small B, and another chunck out of it would have left me very lopsided. They also wanted to take more lymph nodes to be sure as well, so I had a mastectomy and level 1 lymph node clearance. (all clear, and no more tumours found). i have since had the other one off and just finished reconstruction with implants a few months ago. I hope you get a good pathology report, and I hope you get it soon, as the waiting is the pits. Good luck. Love Chris xx

Sorry to hear the margins weren't clear and that you have to go back in and have more surgery, it sucks but it could really be worse.

I hope the final pathology report comes back soon (hopefully before your srugery so if more lymph work needs to be done it can be done at the same time).

Is this second surgery to be just a wider area or a full mastectomy?

Good luck with the rest of your pathology results.

Thankyou my lovelies

Just saw the surgeon, 1 margin is pretty close and the other has DCIS in it grrrrr
What a pain!
I told him to feel free to take whatever he needs. Including the whole breast.
I have pretty big boobs but this isn't quite the way I wanted a reduction!!!
Mama Mia!
