Finally I am straight again

Hi all my pink sisters,  I thought I needed a change from the "old lady" perm - had to keep telling young people that it definately was not a perm!!!!  Anyway went back to my  longterm hairdresser and boy what a change.  I had permanent straightening (yes not too many chemicals), colouring and foils and some shaping into a nice style.  I love it.  She told me that "it" is at its most defined and as soon as the regrowth starts   "my do" will be fuller.

January repeat

Hi all,  Haven't posted for a while - just been enjoying replying to others. We got some "not so welcome" news yesterday.  It was such a shock as I have been gradually getting stronger and looking forward to a large family holiday in Thailand next month to celebrate my nephew's wedding.  My husband had his regular doctor visit to check on his DVT.  He has been off Warfrin for a couple of months after struggling with the side effects most of the year. (had a DVT diagnosed last January)  Anyway after an ultrasound last evening he has been diagnosed with more DVT.

One year today

Hi all you lovlies,  Today I felt a bit off and annoyed with everything and everyone.  I even shed a tear on the way home from town.  Then it dawned on me - one year ago today I was re-diagnosed.  Tomorrow I will step over the threshold into good health!!!! I really feel like throwing away all the tablets (Arimidex plus all the vitamins to counteract the side effects) and all the specialists, GPs and therapists.  I want to be FREE of it all. When my husband and I head off down the highway heading to my family for Xmas in Brisbane I will feel FREE  at least.

Feeling "cleansed"

Hi all,  Went for my genetics testing results in Brisbane on Wednesday.  I am so pleased to report that I have a negative result on BRAC1 and BRAC2.  Of course this doesn't let me know why I got BC but it sure gives me, my girls, my granddaughter and my sisters some peace of mind.  This result has really changed how I am feeling at the moment.  I do feel "cleansed" of this curse.  In my mind I can say "I think my stressful lifestyle, including a horrible divorce, has been the major factor/s in my diagnosis".

The Pink Ladies are "walking"

Hi All,  I loaned some of "my" pink ladies to a friend for her "girls day in" last Friday.  They looked so lovely in her garden entrance.  Photos were taken and when her future daughter in law saw them, wanted to have the same effect at her pink gathering.  So the ladies are off to Mackay for the weekend.  Have had a great response to them in the shop windows where I placed them for the month.  I was actually taking photos of the window yesterday and saw for myself the attention that they attracted.

Loving my family

Hi to all us Survivors,  I have just spent some lovely days in Brisbane visiting my family.  Whilst I was there I attended a consultation on genetic testing.  I have had the blood test carried out and will have the results in 4 weeks.  My daughters, I feel, are of differing opinions - one has her family and the other is single and unattached.  We will all wait and see what comes of the result.  Not scarey for me but I am sure that there is quite some anxiety for my daughters.

Happy dragon boating

Well, we did it.  A group of ladies from Rocky went to Bundy for a dragonboat regatta.  We were "matched" against the Bundy Pinkies.  They won the first race, we tied the second then we won the final - by .06 second.  Oh what fun.  Today the stiffness is setting in.  Gee it was good to "get away" from bc for a couple of days.  Tomorrow is day 2 after strenuous exercise so I might be moving even a bit slower than usual. Hope everyone is coping with their treatment and after affects - there is scope for "real life"  .  XLeonie

What BCNA allows me to achieve

Hi all,  On Thursday morning I attended the local "Footy's Hidden Heros" function at the local Nissan dealership from 6am (yes I was up with flying colours - ONLY PINK).  I got to speak on the radio about how wonderful BCNA is and the resources and empowerment it offers women going through this journey.  Lots of photos, lots of contacts, lots of networking.  Terry Gordon (another Community Liasion Officer from this area and my dear friend) both attended.  Our photo was in the local newspaper yesterday along with an article of the theme.

Hope everyone is as well as can be.  We have lovely sunshine here today after a couple of days of rain.  Everything looks nice and clean again.  And the weeds will be soft - not today though.  Today I am sad - thought I wouldn't cry but I did LOTS.  Our beautiful old German Shepherd dog left us today.  He got an extra 8 months more than the vet thought he would.  I always said that he would stay around until my chemo finished so I should be happy for the extra time.

It's good to be alive and active

Hi all, I have just returned from a 55 minute well-paced walk with the c-vivor group. How great do I feel?
