I have started to think that these expanders are link having turtle shells strapped to your chest, what I am wondering is how do I chose between Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael for names, and how do I teach them to stop fighting and causing me pain in the middle of the bloody night, please note is is 1.23 am, hopefully when I finally get to exchange sugery it will feel like the poor little buggers have lost their homes lol

I think they at least deserve to be girls. I'd choose Donna & Rachel!
I will be following in your footsteps as I have the same operation next week.
Hope you finally got some sleep.

Hi ladies, they may be uncomfortable, but the permanent implants will be so different. Someone once told me, that the difference between expanders and implants was like taking off your high heels and putting on comfy slippers. Having already completed the process 5 months ago, I have to agree with this comment. So, don't despair, as all will be ok in the end. Good luck Ange with your surgery next week, and for both of you, hang in there, it will improve. Love Chris

I think Donatello and Raphael ☺

Is the pain muscular or pulling in the scars?

I went straight to silicone implant without the expanders and had SHOCKING SHICKING pains in my pec muscles as they tried to learn their new position with the implants under them (I felt like I was being torn in half - this is mostly due to my body having a hard time due to a genetic connective tissue disorder I have, which effects my muscular skeletal systems amongst others, they kept me in for 14 days after my mastectomy/reconstrcution surgery on high dose pain meds and muscle relaxants and i was onyl allowed home with a hospital bed (which I still sleep in), as I couldn't get out of bed by myself for about 6 weeks after my surgery, but I can get out of it alone now, but as I had the bed for a while longer I still use it as it is VERY handy with my chemo as I can rest and sleep in the loungeroom and not all alone at the other end of the house (I suffer terribly from fatigue form my chemo and tend to rest and sleep a LOT).

Good Luck with getting them to stop fighting and to let you sleep (make sure you mention it to your treating team, as there are things they can do to help, as slep is very important for recovery).

Ooooh I like that comment Chris about high heels and slippers. So looking forward to getting my slippers. Never have been a high heel girl :0) unless necessary.

Hang in there Narelle, I know what you are talking about but we are getting there. Surely it has to get easier, although I was told today by a lady who has just had her implant put in that you get another drain. I never wanted to hear that word again after the last time...
