My story

I visited my GP in Nov 2011 for a regular annual health checkup. She suggested I go for a mammogram. As my last mammogram was normal 2 yrs before, I didn't race out to Breastscreen to have it done straight away.

I finally did go on 6 Dec and received a call-back a week later. Had more tests and a core biopsy with results given to me on 13 Dec 2011 that I have Early Breast Cancer. My GP was excellent - saw me after my appt with Breastscreen that day. By the time I arrived, she had made an appt for me to see the breast surgeon 2 days later.

Christmas was a bit surreal. Everything felt normal. Yet at the same time, everything had changed for me and my family.

I had a lumpectomy left breast and 5 nodes removed. Nodes came back clear of cancer and tumour was 1.2mm grade 2 ER+.  Radiation oncologist recommends a course of radiation over 6 weeks. Saw the med oncologist on Friday and as my tumour is 'borderline', he advises that I have a 4 course TC to start in the next week.

It has been comforting and informative reading the posted blogs. I hope that I will hear from some of you ladies as I start my journey living with breast cancer.

Time off work

Hi Ladies,

Just wanting to know if any of you have managed to return to work in-between treatment cycles?

Or would it be more realistic to have the whole time off while on chemo and radiation?

I have completed chemo number two 10 days ago and have recovered from the immediate side effects. Number 3 (of 4) is scheduled for after Easter. As I feel well enough, I have gone back to work. I was also missing the social interaction. Work has been very accommodating so I can't complain.

Hi,

Preparing for first chemo tomorrow morning. Anxious and nervous. Have read up on what to expect but won't know for sure how it will go for me.

I now have lovely painted nails - dark colour - as advised by the onc nurse. Does it have to be a dark colour or just bold colour? Do all chemo drugs damage nail beds?

I am apprehensive about losing my hair and have yet to check out wigs or headscarfs. Guess I will do that in the next week. Would like to have something before my hair falls out. When did this happen for others who have been on TC?
