ANY GOOD READING MATTER

Posted by Mich x on 27 Apr 2012, 03:45PM

Hey pink ladies

I am very keen on reading as much interesting and informative information about BC. I also love reading stories from other ladies (or men) and their journeys.

It will help keep me busy when I am too tired to do anything else and at the moment that is all I am interested in reading.

Any suggestions of good reading matter on this subject would be much appreciated.

23 Journeys and Counting

Sarah 51's picture

Hi Mich

This book is a good read it's about all sorts of people and their breast cancer jopurneys while also following the breast cancer journey of the author I really enjoyed it and could relate to it quite well. It even includes a man with breast cancer too. It' also easy to pick up and put down. I borrowed it from a friend but am sure a good library would have it. I also read "I wore lipstick to my mastectomy " which was ok but as it's an American book found I couldn't relate to it that much the author spent at least 2 days in bed after her surgery well in Australia you're being discharged!! I oredered that through my library. I have read some other very funny books but can't remember the titles now.

Good luck and if you find some good books let me know.

Cheers

Thanks so much Sarah. We have a tiny lil library in our country town but the young girl has said she is happy to source the other libraries for me and get in anything she can that I would like. I know it is probably normal practice for libraries but I am very grateful that she will take the time and do that for me. I will ask her about that book on Monday. Sounds right up my alley :-)

I know what you mean about kicking us out of our beds straight after surgery. I had two surgeries and I was up and out of there as early as they could get me out the next morning. I guess there just isn't the funding for beds, food, staff etc etc to take care of us. But we can have a Bell Tower and new Entertainment Centres and whatever else our lovely politicians decide on to big note themselves while they are in office, these things being in W.A.. Shame they didn't feel the same way about a good efficient health and medical service. That is my gripe for the day LOL heehee

Thanks again, much appreciated.

Books

Hi Mich,

I enjoyed "Bosom Buddies" (Australian), which was funny and an English one called "It's not like that actually" which was a lot more serious, but I appreciated her honesty about the bad things as well. Can't remember the authors, but should be easy to find. May I also you check Breacan's website for titles - Victorian service so they can't post to you, but good for ideas.

Regards..... Pam

Hi my dear friend Mich
I recently discovered the website www.fishpond.com.au
They have a huge range of books and they don't charge for shipping. I ordered quite a few books from an author I recently discovered and I could get 4 for the price of one in big w.
Some are shipped from the us or uk. I ordered 11 books and they have all come separately. They keep you updated on your order by email sending expected delivery etc. I found the site to be great. Most arrived within 2 weeks.

My other blog

Hi Mich I've been keeping an online journal of my thoughts during this time. It's pretty raw and uncensored, I've also written a couple of poems. www.dansboobsrevolt.blogspot.com xx Dan

Hey Dan

You made me laugh, you made me cry, you made me sigh, you made me giggle.

Thank you for sharing it with me Dan, I feel really very priviledged.

Your words ring so true to so many of us out there I am sure.

You have a wonderful imagination and way with words. I love the beach poem. I love the beach!!! I have recently moved to the country but mainly to the beach. I find it is so healing, calming, wild and my most favourite place in the world. It is amazing though that I am hiding myself away so much at the moment that even the beach can't draw me out. I will get back there I am sure, patience and time.

I have so much respect for my chemo and breast nurses, it must be such a heart wrenching job and to not take it home with you at night must be very hard.

I know and believe you will be a great Ambassador for Breast Cancer in whatever you choose to do to help others (you already are helping me without even trying hard by just being here and being you so I thank you).

I look forward to being able to continue to follow your blog with much interest. It is lovely and I really do enjoy reading journals so I thank you.

I have ordered that book by John Borgase (spelling??) thank you for that.

Keep on smiling LOL
