Herceptin

Hi strawberryk

Why are you having Herceptin if you are HER negative?? PBS doesn't cover this and you'd be paying upwards of $3,000 per treatment, so you need to look at your pathology report again. Think you'll find it reads HER 2 neu +. The HER and the neu are after the two people who discovered the actions of Herceptin.

Can't help you with the effects of Herceptin but others will jump in with their suggestions. What other chemo are you having?

With love

Her2+

Hi strawberryk If you are having Herceptin you will probably find that you are HER2+ . I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis and this is a great place to be. I too am HER2+++ and ER+++ Grade 3 with multi nodal involvement. Had 12 removed with 4 in the armpit then another found in the breast tissue . Originally had a lumpectomy then 2 days later had a mastectomy. Chemo then Radio followed by ovary removed ! Its been a crap year really LOL Head aches are quite common with herceptin your Onc may be able to give you something to help. I had bad headaches , dizziness and bad breathlessness and heart palpitations with my first  4 treatments but things are settling down now. I still get tired and have very little strength but not as bad as it was. I was told that herceptin was a walk in the park! maybe compared to taxatere it is but I have found its not without its side effects. I do hope you are feeling better and that 2012 is kind to you . Keep in touch Regards Hilary xx

Chemo side effects

I have learnt a few things about Chemo side FX.  I would like to share them with you...

1.  Get  a GOOD relationship with your local GP.  They can prescribe:-

  • antibiotic creams for infected skin rashes- numerous- perineum from my toxic urine to hair follicles.
  • Nilstat for Thrush which is always a hassle
  • Blood tests to check up on you from time to time.
  • Referral to a Psychologist, on Medicare: when I was falling apart at the start of the treatment.etc

2. Naturopathic stuff helps hugely with Chemo problems.

  •  Protein shakes are great- highly recommend them for keeping up your energy levels.Use Pea protein plus lots of other stuff like Linseed Sunflower Almond (LSA) nut mix, linseed oil and Acai seeds etc. put into rice milk por almond milk along with fresh fruits like berries and whizz with  a stab blender. Ice cubes help to make it more palatable.
  • Zinc needs to be replenished so take high doses of Zn for taste buds- what are those?
  • Digestive tract is knocked out so lots of Polybac or active acidopholous (keep in fridge) for healthy gut.  It does make  a difference.
  • No coffee or alcohol- it all tastes  like crap anyway.
  • Ribraxx- shiitake mushroom and rice bran enzyme powders.  Not cheap, but it is used in Japan as a normal adjunct to Chemotherapy

Over to you my dear. I hope this helps. I paid a fortune for Naturopathic stuff but if it works what the heck. Your health is worth it quite frankly!

Good luck. I do not have Herceptin but Taxotere.  Horrible stuff naturally.
