Round 1 - Day 6

Posted by BirdGirl on 20 Feb 2012, 10:29AM

Hi Ladies!

I am glad to say that I have made it through to day 6 of my first round of FEC chemo. It has been a very intense few days and I am looking forward to coming out the other side! Side effects have mostly been nausea (managed with meds), hot flushes, fatigue, anxiety/depression and generally feeling like crap! But otherwise, manageable :)

I slept for 12 hours last night so I guess that's what my body needed. Going to try and watch a couple of movies today and do a little exercise for my mastectomy arm. Otherwise, just taking it hour by hour and writing down everything that happens so I can keep track.

I hope you are all surviving too. It is so great to have this forum to share with you all. I don't feel so alone. Thanks heaps!

Hello BirdGirl

Maria333's picture

I remember all those nasty feelings and here I am come through the other side.

Stay positive and organise something wonderful for when your treatment is done, enjoy each day as it comes and look for the good in everything, if you can't well dont worry about it and dont linger on it.

I remember all the sleeping, must be why I am not sleeping so long now. Writing it down is a good idea, seems to get it out of your system and helps recall when there seems to be so much to remember.

All the best. Maria333

Hi there

Hi BG. You've got the right idea; just take things as they come and take it easy. I've been through the whole treatment thing twice; once in 2002 and again last year. My best advice to you is that the treatment is just a short time of your life, and you WILL get back to a normal happy life afterwards. Keep everything in perspective and don't let it overwhelm you. Do whatever makes you happy and spoil yourself. xx Jane

So far so good, just got to get past day 10 and you should be feeling much better.Do whatever works for you on the bad days.I call them "wallow in it"days where I'd stay in bed and cry- probably cried out the toxins cos I'd feel abit better afterwards! It's hard to be positive 24/7 and that's ok. It's good to write it all down-not only therapautic but also helps you remember for the next round. Chemo brain creeps up on you! Get lots of rest, lots of fluids and let others do the running around.
