Hi, I would love to know what everyone's surgeons considered clear margins after their ops. I had a lumpectomy.
Some info I read say 2mm and some say 1mm is enough margin. My path. report says '1mm, abutting the superficial margin'. They also found a satellite node with similar margins.
My surgeon was happy with this but my radiologist said I needed the boosts because my margins were so close.
Confused, thanks Kylie x

I thought they gave you a radiation"boost" to the cancer area during the last few days of treatment no matter what your margin was. That's what I had back in 2003 -unless things have changed?

Hi Tonya, not everyone I was at radio with got a boost, but it wasn't the boost I was concerned about it was the comment about small margins. x
margins
Hi, my margins were actually 5mm, because it such an important issue you should ask your surgeon for piece of mind as I m sure everyones medical team has different opinions. If I was ever unsure about results I questioned them dont forget its our life and worrying doesnt help us so give them a call. Im having 5 weeks of radiation and then 1 week of a boost just to the tumor area.

re excision due to non clear margin
Mine were .5mm from the medial margin & 10mm from the lateral & inferior margins but had a positive for the superior margin resulting in another operation for more to be taken.
They were then 1mm from the new superior, anterior & posterior margins & 6mm from the lateral margin.
I agree with adean,, speak to your surgeon for peace of mind.

Thanks for your input, I will definately do that. Trust in your treatment is so important during this. x
