Arimidex

Further to my last post about Arimidex, does anyone have sore knees, fingers etc. I feel 10 years older at the moment.

I have a bone density test in September and that will be interesting.

Hi Denise

I have been taking Arimidex for 7 months and I get sore fingers and toes, but its manageable, still annoying though. I had a Bone density test after I had been on it for 4 months and I had already lost bone density, putting me just into osteoporosis. I am supposed to go on a bisphosphonate tablet to help with my bones, but I need to get some dental work done first, as you cannot have any drilling done while you are taking bisphosphonates. My oncologist glossed over this, but a pharmacist from the company that supplies them explained it all to me.  Great Fun!!

Thanks Janice

I'll see what my Oncologist says in September.nything that can help bone loss is great.

How old are you and when did you have BC. Did you have a mastectomy?

Hi Denise

I was diagnosed May last year when I was 59. My case is a bit strange, had a mammogram at breastscreen May 2010 all clear after getting a call back for an ultrasound ( obviously it wasn't clear).  Started seeing a new GP in April last year and as standard practice she sent me for a mammogram, ultrasound, blood tests etc just because that's what she does, even though I had a clear mammogram 10 months before. Enlarged lymph nodes showed up under my arm  in mammogram and ultrasound and after biopsies etc they came back positive for lobular cancer. No primary was ever found, so I had axilliary clearance with 8 out of 13  lymph nodes positive. I didn't have a mastectomy because there was no tumour. I had  4 lots of AC chemo then 12 Taxol and then 25 radiotherapy. Now arimidex and soon bisphosphonates. Also seeing a gyno oncologist tomorrow because I will be having my ovaries out as my mother had ovarian cancer, but there is no breast cancer in the family.

Hi Janice

I was 53 when diagnosed with BC left side. I also had an all clear routine mammogram 8 months before. I had a mastectomy and four lymph nodes removed using sentionel nodes and one one node had a small speck in it. I didn't have chemo or radiation but Tamoxifen was prescribed for 5 years, Then after 3 years they decided to change me to Arimidex for the next 2 years. I am coming up for 4 years clear on 27th of theis month.

Cheers

Denise
