Bone Scan ???

Posted by pinkpeonie on 04 Aug 2012, 07:18PM

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering - I completed my herceptin a few weeks ago and have since had a mammogram and ultrasound on remaining breast - all clear thank goodness !!!

Just wondering though i have seen that a few have mentioned having a bone scan at this time also. I wasnt offered this - should you or do you usually have one at your year check up.

I had 2 tumors grade 2 , with a small lymphovacular invasion but nodes clear !!

Mastectomy , chemo , radio and herceptin now on femara even though 43 due to early menopause!!

Look forward to hearing from you.

Take care

Hi Debs.
Ive had the same as you by the sounds of it.Mastectomey chemo heceptin radiation and on Aromison due to early menopause. im 41 and on a trial drug for my age.
I havnt had any scans either just mammogram and ultrasound.I aske my oncologist why i wasnt getting scans. she said it wasnt necessary. That id been hit with everything and only if pain or illness thats unexplained. Then they would do one.
Doesnt make me feel any better when there is so many secondries out there.
Dont know if ive helped you or not.But you arnt alone in this.

No not nosey its good to find someone with a similar diagnosis and age.
Im on Exemestane which is similar to femara. These are usualy given to post menopausal women.so as they put me into early menopause their is a trial to see if it works in our age group.
Im doing ok.Trying to manage lymphodema and aches and pains.I cant figure out if its from the chemo.or from the exemestane.Especialy the bottoms of my feet.I recently had my ovaries removed.Just hope thats it now and i can move on with my life.
How are you doing? Do you have any issues? Do you have any pain?

Hi again.

Yes it is great connecting with similar age diagnosis etc - I too have aches and pains and interestingly also have sore bottoms of the feet.

I find getting up in the mornings and after sitting for a while a bit slow - feel more achy then and takes a while to get going.

One thing I guess I didnt expect was the ongoing discmfort related to mastectomy and lymph nodes out.Naively I thought it would just feel like after a while I wouldnt even have to think about it - but I am constantly aware not because of the obvious aspect of missing a boob haha but because of the effects of the op !!!  I had my op last year in april and still have trouble lying on that side in bed etc just pretty uncomfortable and my upper ribs are sore still too. the surgeon said the rib pain is linked to radio and the other pain is linked to nerve trauma - he gave me a cortisone injection last visit and it did actually make a difference but is wearing off again !!!

I guess our aches and pains are probably a combination of things - I have 2 daughters and get frustrated that I still dont have the energy levels I would like. I havent been very good with exercise but have recently bought a bicycle and need to get going on it !!!!

I still have my ovaries - a friend who is a breast cancer nurse in the uk says removing ovaries is something they do more than not there and wondering why they werent taking mine out but when i spoke to the oncologist he said as I was already menopausal it was needed at this point - so we shall see.

Do you have any children Annie ?

I am like you - just want to get on with living now !!!

Still we have been on quite a journey so far hey - sometimes even now I still cant believe I've been through all we have. Somedays it feels like a bad dream and yet its not haha !!!

I am all ready for some sweet dreams ahead now .

Really great chatting.

Hi Debs funny we both have the same problem with our feet.I too find it hard to get going in the mornings and after sitting.I feel like an 80 year old.I started tai chi for arthritis last week with all the oldies.I must say suprisingly i felt great for a couple of days after it.Looking forward to tonight.
I have two boys 12 and 15 so its easier with them being older.
I cant believe the trouble i have under my arm as well.Like you i thought it would just go back to normal after a while.Ive had to give up my cleaning business. The strenuous work exasperated the problem.I also have a lot of pain in my back since surgery.which was Nov 2010.I feel lik
e i am some what crooked.
Omg i sound like a whinger. i dont mean to!
I wonder if we are close in the geographical sense im near the border in country victoria.Just moved here havnt met many people yet.
Goodluck with the aches and pains.you have made me feel somewhat normal!
Take care
Annie x
