My story

Hi everyone. I will start by introducing myself. My name is Kate and I am a Breast Cancer survivor. I was diagnosed with HER2 positive Breast Cancer in June of 2008. At the time I had been married to my husband Bob for 4 years and i had two beautiful daughters Breeanna who was 3 and Gemma was 1. As you all know my worls was turned upside down. I am a very outgoing positive person, but this tested my strength like nothing had before. Why did this happen to me and how was I going to get through this aswell as be the best mum I could?

I firstly had a lumpectomy with no clear margins so I went back on the chopping block so to speak and had a complete Mastectomy of my right breast and an axilla clearance which ended up with 4 nodes positive. 8 rounds of chemo over 6 months, 6 weeks of radiation and a year of Herceptin and I am now all clear. Fingers crossed that is the way it stays!!!

I am back working as a hairdresser, and have recently trained to be a Community Liasion with BCNA. I have also written a book "The Breast Is Yet To Come" which will be published by Christmas 2010. It is about my journey as a 27 year old mum tackling Breast Cancer and coming out the other end and looking forward. Hopefully it will help other young Breast Cancer patients....

Apart from all that I keep busy with my girls, whom my life revolves around. I did it all for them and hope I make them as proud of me as they do to me!!
