Genox out of stock

Posted by TonyaM on 05 Jul 2013, 04:41PM

Hi ladies,

I can't get Genox at any pharmacy in Sydney- am told it's been out of stock for a month or so. I won't take the other brands cos they have something in them that gives me a facial rash and bad headaches. The chemist thought it might be Titanium as this chemical is not in Genox brand. Has anyone else had trouble getting Genox? It's really not good enough is it.   Tonya xx

Genox

Its used by men for body building so there is another very large market for it globally which must be depleting stocks..

H Tonya,
When I first started taking tamoxifen the chemist gave me GENOX, it did not agree with me it gave me bad headaches and I felt yuk all the time, Not sure if it was my body getting use to the drug
The next script I got was (tamoxifen SANDOZ) and I have been great on this one only have hot flushes at ovulation time which I track on a period calender app on my phone
No major headaches ...but I do have to place an order for it at least a month before I need it as the chemist has to order it in I have been taking the sandoz brand since September last year and as soon as I started taking it I felt a difference

Hi Tonya,  have you rung the drug company?  It definately is not good enough.  It might be something that the girls at BCNA may be able to help with. XLeonie

Hi Tonya, I take the Genox brand too, at Christmas Time I had trouble getting.  Virtually got it a day after missing one tablet. So now the chemist order 3 packets in for me and kept aside.  Well I have now used up all those 3 packets. The Chemist has said there is no stock of Genox until September. I then proceeded to 3 other chemist in the area, who all said the same thing. I even tried online.  So I had no choice but to try a different brand, this week I am trying Novalex. I am too scared to go without any tamoxifen. I agree not good enought. When I google "Tamoxifen, Genox, Novalex" to see what is the different in the ingrediants. I was shocked to read that body builders used tamoxifen to help control the effects of steroids or to help with something of the mass effects of over exercising, I not sure if this affects Australia, but it was effecting England and Americal in stock as people are ordering these online and apparantly some countries will allow without prescription.  I FIND THIS TOTALLLY UNACCEPTABLE.....There is people who like you and I who need this medication for our health, and these people are taking worldwide supplies to enhance their bodies. Not sure what to do about this, peoples lives could be effected by this. There should be some safety mechanism to make sure our supplies are not effected. Good luck in finding it. Dot xxxx

National shortage of Genox

I went to get my script filled a few days ago and for the second time I have had to have tamosin instead of  genox. My pharmacist tells me it's out until 25th July!! The tamosin seems fine but have always had genox before. C'est La Vie!

Hi Tanya (and all),

I checked with the company that supplies Genox, and they confirm that the 10mg tables are currently out-of-stock, but they expect them to be available soon (they were unable to confirm how soon but it sounds like a few weeks, as Sarah noted, is realistic).

In relation to alternatives -- sometimes the additional substances in a drug (inert substances that provide a vehicle for the drug) cause problems for some people. For example, it seems that other brands of Tamoxifen contain lactose which may cause trouble in lactose-intolerant people.

If you find you are able to take some brands of a drug but not others, one or more of the additional substances could be the cause.  Best advice is to talk to your doctor or pharmacist about which alternatives might be similar in composition to the drug you currently take.

Hope that helps.

Its used by men for bodybuilding. You will see their chat if you google it. They must be buying up large stocks overseas as they don't need a script there.

Hi Girls, I use the Sandoz brand and was having all sorts of problems getting it! I tried about 6 different chemists and my husband rang around to a few near his work too. He was told that it is one of the ingredients that they are having trouble getting and there will be low stocks of tamoxifen for "a while". I was lucky enough this morning to be able to source my Sandoz one this morning....maybe I should get a spare box just in case it's out of stock next time!!

Hi mdunn10

I know how you feel. It's very frustrating.I find this "out of stock"situation with Genox comes and goes.About 6 weeks ago I had no trouble getting it.When I can't get it,I either ration down to 10mg a day or go on a medication holiday for a month or so.I think this is a better solution than giving up altogether.I can't take the other brands either cos I get a facial rash and a bad headache if I do.My chemist thinks it's a carrier chemical Titanium which is not in the Genox brand but in the others.Anyway, sometimes even the others are out of stock too.Don't give up darl, you don't want to risk a recurrence.I've had a recurrence and I'm determined to follow through this time. If this business with Genox doesn't improve soon then I think we should kick up a big fuss with the drug company.

Hi mdunn10

I'm really sorry to hear you are having so much difficulty finding a suitable brand of tamoxifen.  It is not a situation we like to hear about at all, and I am concerned that

Have you discussed this with your doctor or breast care nurse? There are a few different brands of tamoxifen, and some women have told us that they were able to find alternatives to Genox that did not cause adverse effects.  You may like to have a word with your doctor about suitable alternatives.  Your pharmacist may also have some ideas.  Perhaps even consider visiting a different pharmacy chain if you are in a position to.

All the best - please do not give up! Please do get in touch with us if you have any questions.
