Tamoxifen and high blood pressure

Posted by TonyaM on 03 Jul 2012, 09:09PM

Hi girls,

Just putting this question out there. Has anyone experienced their blood pressure going up on Tamoxifen?

I used to have VERY normal blood pressure but gradually it's been going up and up. I'm beginning to wonder if it's Tamoxifen - Hey, I blame it for everything else!

Not for me

Hi Tonya,  I have always had a great reading for my blood pressure (if anything it is usually low).  Didn't see a change whilst on Tamoxifen. XLeonie

Hi Tonya,

I have recently started Tamoxifen.  I have high blood pressure which is controlled with a low dose medication.  Am waiting to see if the Tamoxifen has any impact.

I used to have dead normal blood pressure till about 4 years when it changed - no idea why.  It is possible that the change is not due to Tamoxifen but to other things (eg, stress!).  It can be hard to untanble this stuff.

Cheers, Esther

Thanks

Thanks for your input ladies. As you say, there is often no explanation for these things.I'll be back to my doctor in a few weeks but in the meantime will try to lose some weight and start taking fish oil capsules.I've heard that can help.

I had high blood pressure before bc, whilst having treatment my bp dropped so much so that I stopped all medication. Then started on tamoxifen and it came back up again
Not sure if it's because if tamoxifen or the treatment finishing.
Hope you are well
Xxxxx

Thanks Penny

My aim

Leonie Moore's picture

Hi Tonya,  I have set a goal to have my weight down for the Sydney conference.  So as soon as I return from my wine swigging, food indulgent, non stop tongue wagging trip to Bendigo, I am into the exercise regime and mouth taping diet!!!  In Sydney if you don't see a trim, youthful cosmetically enhanced ME then it didn't work!!!!! XLeonie   PS  I will still be lovable though.

Hi Leonie and Penny

That mouth taping diet sounds good -think my husband would like me on that one!! Well I have no hope over this weekend as it's my birthday and have lots of yummy treats organized for me.Got given a big box of chocolates today from my father in law - they'll have to be eaten cos you know how quickly chocies go stale! I mostly blame my husband for this weight gain - he is always suggesting a cappucino or fish n chips etc  if we are out.He never puts on weight. I need more will power.I've told myself I can't buy anymore clothes until I lose some kilos.Ok Leonie,I'll take up the challenge with you for October - will try for a 5 kilo loss. Now where's that duck tape!

Happy birthday for last week. Hope you enjoyed your chocies and hope you ate them all before they went stale.  Did you get spoilt , hope so as us women deserve it.   By the way my  blood pressure is up  127/98. My Doctor doesnt seem to worried though, so i dont think it is the tamoxifen.

Hope everything is going fine with you. I have just past my 1 year and am waiting on my results to come back for the mamogram. Strangly enough  the radioligist let me see the pictures on the screen and with what i saw it didnt look good. But she wouldnt say. My boob looks like there has been a  vulcano in there and there is a huge hole at the top of the volcano. Hmmm i dont think i should have looked cause i saw things that were probably normal but not in my eyes if you know what i mean.  Well better go,  so stay safe and i will talk soon

cheers Joxx
