My story
In November 2009 I found what felt like a 'thickening' in my left breast while towelling myself off after a swim. After waiting two weeks for my next period to finish in case it was lumpy period breasts, I went to see my GP. She sent me off for a mammogram and ultrasound which showed abnormal tissue. The breast surgeon confirmed cancer after another ultrasound and fine needle biopsy. They also detected cancer in the lymph nodes. CT scan and bone scan came back clear. Mastectomy on left side and full lymph node clearance quickly followed. Then 6 rounds of chemotherapy and 3 weeks of radiation treatment. All finished now, hair growing back, nails growing back, general health still a bit dodgy - picking up every single bug going around. Starting to think about a reconstruction but not ready to face more surgery just yet. Very worried about cancer coming back. I really want my 3 year old daughter to have her Mum about while she grows up.
PART 2
January 2012: I wish there was no part 2 but it looks like there's going to be. I've had a pain under my ribs on the right side for about 2 months. I wasn't too concerned about it and put it down to a muscle strain as it appeared right after a camping trip. Then came unbearable nausea that I had day and night. Finally went to the GP and an ultrasound has shown 'multiple lesions on the liver'. GP thinks it likely to be cancer and a blood test and CT scan will confirm. I am devastated and terrified.

The Burqini!
Hello ladies,
I am currently undertaking chemotherapy (and according to my Oncologist, will be having it now FOREVER (but what does he know) ..... and I was thinking about what I was going to do this summer with my bald head when I really like swimming and going to the beach and in fact have a family holiday to Cairns booked for October. Enter.....the Burqini!
Secondaries in the liver
Anyone had secondary tumours on the liver? Wondering how it might be treated????
swollen fingers
My fingers became very swollen throughout chemo and now, 9 months later, they are still swollen and my rings don't fit. I would like to wear my wedding ring again. Should I get my rings re-sized or will my fingers eventually go back to normal?
what's happened to my digestive system????
Since chemo I have had huge problems with stomach bloating, wind and flatulence. Wondering if this has happened to anyone else out there? I was on a fair bit of anti-biotics around that time too due to continual infections, so thought that may have contributed. I took a course of Inner Health Probiotics which were very expensive and did not seem to help at all. Any suggestions out there????
Looking up
11 months since diagnosis and I'm starting to feel my old self again (except for the mono-boob look that is...) My hair is a trendy short crop, my nails have grown back and I'm exercising regularly again. Things are looking up!!
