First Chemo Day

Well everyone has their own experience and as I havent felt this aweful since a bad hangover in my 20s, Id kinda forgotten what feeling sick was.  The use of the Portal was a breeze, which was my concern and the 5 hours spent in the hospital was great.  Staff fantastic, no worries, even had lunch.  For me I have been feeling sick from 3pm until 10 pm, but not enough to be sick = the 8 and the other reason I didnt give this hell trip a 10 is because I havent had a reaction.  The other surprise was waking up coughing because my saliva had vacated my mouth.  I had to then use Biotene mouth wash, and the aweful Gel.  But I think I removed the Gel with a non sugar lolly and more water anyway.  Whoke up consistantly all night and got off the lounge at 5am to get my day started.  I am not usually a complainer, but just telling what my first day was like.  I will have my fingers crossed for Day 2.  Im not expecting anything, just an opportunity to drink as much water as humanly possible.  I took one Coloxyl last night before bed and that worked a treat.  Was warned to take Coloxyl and Senna from tonight on.  Constipation is not an option!  The headache has been quite consistant too, which I put down to the dehydration.  Cheers to Day 1 ! Oh I did eat dinner, but advise on basic veg, rice and chicken.  My chicken was marinated and it repeated all night!  It was great to see Susan Schwabe and be looked after so brilliantly by Di Green, the highlight of Day one! Now, what is today going to bring!

Hi

Hang in there.  What got me through chemo was the knowledge that others had gone before me and they had come out of the tunnel.  It is a challenging time but the best advice that I was given was "Just go with the flow".  If you feel unwell, rest, if you feel okay - well then you can do a little of something nice.  I used to watch the weeds grow in my beloved front garden.  I couldn't do anything about them so I just enjoyed being outside.  It seems like you have some lovely people in your life.  Accept all the kindness that comes your way.  Best of luck with your journey.  XLeonie

Oh Belle, how awful. The only thing I can say is write down all the side effects and nasties and tell your doctor. After my first round of AC (I've just had the second dose) I wrote down things I thought were even pretty mild and she said "I can fix that". The best advice I have had was from the nurses on the Cancer Outreach Program at my hospital (who call the day after each dose to see how I am). They said to take everything the doctors give me - even if I don't feel like I need it. I feel like I live on Panadol and Maxolon.....

Drinking plenty of water has helped me, I have my water bottle at my side 24/7 and just sip from it as often as I can.

I hope Day 2 was better for you - take care.
