Hi

I live in a rural area and almost 5 years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Thankfully, after having a mastectomy and the removal of almost all my lymph glands I am still free and clear of all cancer.

I have been on a waiting list in Brisbane at the RBH for reconstruction but as yet had no luck. Almost made it to the table last year but it didn't eventuate.

At the end of this year I am hoping to move to Townsville and am wondering if this procedure is done up there under the public system, what the waiting list is like and if anyone has had this procedure done up there. We're you happy with the results?

Can anyone recommend a good surgeon under the private system?

I am so keen to have this done but am a little nervous about how it will turn out?

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Thanks

Hi Desolee

Congratulations on nearing the 5 year mark.  I don't have any information for you but would like to welcome you to the site.  All the best to you.  I have known ladies who have had great success with reconstruction.  I personally have not needed to do this as I have had a lumpectomy on both diagnosis'.  I am sure you will receive some great info from the pink sisters on this site. XLeonie  PS  Townsville is looking so good nowadays (was just up there 2 weeks ago)

I will talk to my sister this evening and ask her.  She lives in Ingham and has several friends who have undergone chemo etc in Townsville so I will check on the reconstructions.

Take care.
