Herceptin and the brain

Hi,
I was diagnosed with stage II breast cancer in April 2011 and had a mastectomy, chemo and radiation. I have been on Herceptin since June last year and had almost completed my 12 months worth before I was just promoted to Stage IV breast cancer and diagnosed with a secondary brain tumor.

The Herceptin unfortunately could not cross the blood/brain barrier and provide protection there. I am waiting for neurosurgery this week and will then start full brain radiation, chemo and a different targeted therapy regime.

Hello all,

I Have HER2+ ER+ Metastatic BC and the only treatments I have had is Femara and Herceptin. Herceptin is given to me every 3 weeks and I started it in March 2009 and they say I will continue until either it stops working for me or I start having heart problems.

Is there anyone else getting the same?

The only side effects I have is fatigue, headaches, joint pain, dry crusty nose, hot flushes I now get motion sickness and I my eyesight has gotten worse every year since diagnosis.

Back into the land of treatment....sigh...

Well what a shock it was to receive a phone call from my Oncologist on Monday, telling me that preliminary results from the clinical trial that I was in during my treatment in 2009/2010, have shown that the trial drug I took has proven to not be as effective as Herceptin.

I am sad as I have to start Herceptin now...so late down the track just as I am getting my life back together!

I would love to hear from anyone who has taken Herceptin and what side effects you had and/or any hot tips! x

Hi everyone, I just wanted to join this group as I have had 3 lots of herceptin 15 to go plus I am about to start tamoxifen tablets for 5 years. I had the herceptin with my last three chemo's, (docetaxel - nasty stuff) I have now finished my chemo. Yay!!! I have had numb feet, fingers, tongue, and aching in my bones, joints and muscles. So I'm not sure if that is from chemo or herceptin. I cant wait to be finished of these horrible drugs. I am also having nose bleeds and gastric.

Well I'm going to get the washing on. Chat with you all later.

I'd be interested to hear how many of you got Herceptin for early stage BC either before or after it came on the PBS about October 06. I was one of my oncologists first PBS patients.
