In the 2009-2010 Budget, the Federal Government committed $1.3 billion in funding to build new Regional Cancer Centres around Australia and to provide some existing Centres with new equipment and services.
In April 2010, it was announced that Centres would be built or upgraded in the following places:
- Victoria: Ballarat, Bendigo, Traralgon, Gippsland and Wodonga
- New South Wales: Port Macquarie, Lismore, Coffs Harbour, Gosford, Wyong, Wollongong, Nowra, Albury, Tamworth and Armidale
- Queensland: Townsville, Mt Isa, Hervey Bay, Rockhampton, and Bundaberg
- Western Australia: Albany, Northam, Narrogin, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie and Bunbury
Further announcements regarding other Regional Cancer Centres will be made by the Government in the future.
