Breast Cancer Network Australia congratulates our long standing members Anna Wellings Booth (ACT) and Pamela Williams (Vic) on their Australia Day 2012 Honours awards.
Anna and Pamela were both awarded a Member in the Order of Australia (OAM), in recognition of their service to women’s health through breast cancer organisations.
Anna Wellings Booth has been a member of BCNA since our beginnings and played a crucial role in the planting of the very first Field of Women on the lawns of Parliament House, Canberra, in 1998. Anna organised and oversaw the logistics in planting the 10,000 pink lady silhouettes in this very successful event. Anna has continued to represent BCNA and women with breast cancer and their families since that time. Her roles have included:
- BCNA ACT Territory Representative 1998 – 2006
- BCNA Board Member 2001 – 2005
- Member of BCNA’s Rural and Remote Working Party 2004 – 2009
- BCNA Consumer Representative on numerous state and national working parties, committees and project teams
Her Order of Australia award citation read: ‘For service to women's health through a range of breast cancer support organisations, particularly Dragons Abreast Australian Capital Territory Region and Breast Cancer Network Australia.’
Pamela Williams has also been supporting women with breast cancer for more than ten years, through her involvement with the Breast Cancer Action Group (Vic) and BCNA.
Pamela undertook BCNA’s Science and Advocacy Training course in 2001 and has represented BCNA as a Consumer Representative on a number of national and state-based committees and advisory boards since that time.
Pamela continues to support BCNA’s work and to help raise the awareness of the impact of breast cancer.
Her Order of Australia award citation read: ‘For service to women's health through executive roles with breast cancer awareness organisations.’
BCNA also congratulates the following members who were recognised in their local communities for their contributions to supporting women and families affected by breast cancer:
- Tracy Bald (SA) - Australia Day Citizen Award for the District Council of Grant for her work in her local community, including as a BCNA Community Liaison
- Shirley O'Brien (NSW) – Wentworth Citizen of the Year for her work in her local community, including as as a BCNA Community Liaison
- Aunty Marg Lawton (Qld) – Griffith Australia Day Award for her work with Carina Youth Agency and as a BCNA Community Liaison
- Jo Lovelock (Vic) – Mornington Peninsula Shire Australia Day Local Award in the Citizen of the Year category for her work supporting women with breast cancer and as a BCNA Community Liaison
