Hi, my name is Jacqui, and as the female partner of a beautiful woman that has now survived breast cancer, I would like to provide support for any other same sex couples that are experiencing this roller coaster. We were (and are still) extremely lucky to have great support networks (medical, friends and family), but we did not know of anyone in the "same boat" as us, and at times it would have been a great help to have this support. I am more than happy for people to contact me via this site and we can go from there. Thanks xx

Same sex partner support

Hi Jacqui,

I just wanted to jump in and say welcome to the online network - it is great that you found your way to the Partner support group and I hope other same sex couples can find you before they start that roller coaster ride you talk about.

I though I would also pop in a suggestion - you could also set up a seperate 'online interest group' (public/private) for same sex couples and we can link off to this group from the Partner support group. Similar to what we have done with the Partner support 'for men' group.

Let me know if you want a hand otherwise you might find the 'Help' section of the website useful.

Cheers
Daina

Hi Daina,

just thought that I appreciate your support. I have started a Same Sex Partners support group. It is open to everyone, but specifically same sex partners.

Could you possibly link to the Partner Support group please.

Thanks

Hi Jac,

I hope both you and Michelle and doing well. I think this group is going to be  a great resource for other same sex couples. As you said.....same sex couples need support as well :-)

I have included a link to the same sex partner group from the Partner support group. See here: http://www.bcna.org.au/group/22285

Can I suggest, from your online group you make a blog post - similar to the one you had put up in the Partner support group and this will hopefully flag to others that this group exisits and we can see if you get a few new members to join :-)

Let me know if you need a hand.

Cheers

Hi Jacqui,

my girlfriend was diagnosed with locally advanced breast cancer in July 2012. My life has been turned upside down ever since. She's had 2 lots of surgery, 4 months of chemo & has just started radiation treatment. They're treating it aggressively because it's a higher risk BC & has spread to her lymph nodes. I joined this network to seek further support. I'm not really sure what to write? We live in central Victoria on 20 acres with a menagerie of animals. l have built my life around my partner for nearly 20 years & as a same sex couple, it's just the 2 of us. I simply cannot imagine my life without her, it's an unbearable thought. I am am trying to stay rational, focus on the here & now & make every second count. Thankyou Jacqui for kicking of this group.

Cheers,
Jan

Hi Jan,

I just wanted to jump in and tell you that Jacqui has set up a same sex partner group - you can find it here: http://www.bcna.org.au/group/46024

You might want to join the group and make a blog post to introduce yourself and your partner. There is also a resources page on the website for lesbians which might help you and you girlfiend: http://www.bcna.org.au/news/resources/reviews-books-and-other-resources/...

Just shout if you need a hand finding your way around the online network.
