Breast Friends - Online support for young women

About us

Breast Friends is an online support group for young women who have been affected by breast cancer.

Our Story

When i was diagnosed at 25 years of age i felt that alot of the support groups where for older ladies. Although i have always been welcomed into these groups i have found the topic of conversations not really relevant to me and the stage i was up to in my life.

I have created Breast Friends with the idea that younger women can link together and discuss the issues that we face wether its having a young family, our treatment or even the cute boy that you met at the club. I want young women to know they are not alone.

Just popping in to introduce myself I'm 38 years old and was diagnosed in Feb this year with Stage 3 BC. I have just had my third round of chemo on Thursday and feeling a bit sad and sorry for myself this weekend so thought it might be nice to find others going through the same journey.

I am living in Newcastle with my two beautiful kids and very supportive husband and love to know of anyone else in the area.

Good evening all. I have just finished my 5th session of chemo and have one more to go in 2 weeks. My emotions have been up and down as to be expected, but I have been generally pretty upbeat. I have been told by the nurses in the Oncology unit that I seem to be one of their stronger patients, always smiling, upbeat etc. It's amazing the faces you put on in adversity.

Good Afternoon,

Well what an extraordinary day!

My lovely Mum came to pick me up for an appointment with my oncologist this morning (as I wasn't up to driving 75kms to the Hospital and then another 75km back home).

So we go to make a right hand turn to park the car and all of a sudden, there is a huge 'BANG" and we are flung forwards then backwards.....Yep - we were hit by a vehicle trying to overtake us. The overtaking vehicle spun around and ended up facing us. Just Great!

Happy Mother's Day! I do hope something good (no matter how big or small) has happened to everyone today.

For me it is Day 13 of my first chemo cycle and my hair has started to fall out. I think the tears have been flowing just as steadily - and my scalp really hurts. A friend called me "Nair" - Hair today Gone Tomorrow.....Thanks for the laugh.

I was diagnosed with early breast cancer sept 2012. I was told that I had to have a mastectomy with the option of immediate reconstruction, which I took up. I had a TE placed and all went wel l for the first five weeks until I started to experience constant pain along my pec and sternum area. I told both my breast care nurse and PS both of whom said that this was normal as I was quite small. However, I knew that constant pain was not part of the plan, which proved to be correct when I presented at the hospital with an unusual rash and my entire breast was inflamed.
