Mothers Day Weekend
Saturday and Sunday 9 & 10 May 2009

Football and Netball clubs all over Country Victoria, the ACT and Cairns turned Pink in May as a wonderful tribute to those affected by breast cancer. The idea, coming from Victorian Country Football League, captured the imagination of Aussie Rules and Netball clubs everywhere.
Clubs wanting to participate were able to purchase a pink Sherrin or a pink Gilbert ball to play their matches. The clubs did not stop there with BCNA members asked to motivate their local team with their brave breast cancer journey stories, or toss the coin for the match.
Teams held sausage sizzles with the support of the local Bakers Delight, sold raffle tickets, held fundraising dinners and auctioned off their pink ball all to raise money for BCNA.
So may stories and so much support to those who need it the most. A breast cancer diagnosis is always difficult but add to that the issues of leaving your family for treatment, the enormous travel times and then you have an extraordinary journey. Paying tribute to local breast cancer survivors is such a special way to help them make their journey just a little bit easier.
Thank you to all the clubs, the volunteers, the umpires and the community for really getting behind this great promotion. We are sure even more communities will get involved in 2010.
