Tasmanian Forum - Living well beyond breast cancer
BCNA hosted the first forum for 2010 on Tuesday 23 February in Burnie, Tasmania. The focus of the Tasmanian forum was providing support to women in rural areas and was the second event held under the 'Supporting Women in Rural Areas Diagnosed with Breast Cancer Program' funded by the Australian Government.
The forum was attended by more than 160 women and their supporters and was a great success. Speakers at the forum included Medical Oncologist Dr Richard de Boer, McGrath Breast Care Nurse Karen Sprigg and author and breast cancer survivor Dr Stephanie Dowrick.

Geelong Forum - Living well beyond breast cancer
The first forum under the 'Supporting Women in Rural Areas Diagnosed with Breast Cancer Program' funded by the Australian Government was held on Monday 23 November at the Geelong Conference Centre.
The aim of the forum was to bring together women with breast cancer from rural areas in the South-Western district of Victoria. Attendees heard from guest speakers Assoc Professor Richard Bell, Maggie Stowers from Barwon South Western Region Integrated Cancer Service, Olympian and breast cancer survivor Raelene Boyle, and also author and breast cancer survivor Dr. Stephanie Dowrick.
More than 180 women and their supporters gathered in Geelong to hear about the latest in treatment and care, news and information in the local region, depression and breast cancer, emotional well being and general information from BCNA CEO Lyn Swinburne. Another highlight of the event was the Berlei Bus which provided free bra fittings to attendees as well as the general public.
The forum was a great success and BCNA looks forward to bringing forums to regional and rural areas across Australia in 2010. Please refer to Upcoming BCNA Forums web page in early December for dates and locations.

Gold Coast Forum - Living well beyond breast cancer
BCNA together with the Australasian Society for Breast Disease (ASBD) hosted a successful forum on Saturday 3 October at the Marriott Resort Gold Coast. The forum was based on living well beyond breast cancer and was attended by more than 120 women and their supporters.
The speakers included Olympian and breast cancer survivor Raelene Boyle, Exercise Physiologist Dr Sandi Hayes, Psychiatrist Dr Jane Turner and Dietitian/Nutritionist Tara Diversi. The speakers provided information on depression, healthy eating, exercise and relationships after breast cancer.

Sydney Forum - Insights into breast cancer pathology
BCNA hosted a second Sydney forum on Saturday 12 September at the Powerhouse Museum, the forum was attended by more than 240 participants. This second Sydney forum was the result of the overwhelming success of our first Sydney forum earlier in the year.
The forum theme focused on insights into breast cancer pathology and speakers included Medical Oncologist Fran Boyle, Breast Cancer Pathologist Dr Nirmala Pathmanathan and author and breast cancer survivor Dr Stephanie Dowrick.

Darwin Forum - A Forum for women with breast cancer
BCNA together with the Australian New Zealand Breast Cancer Trials Group held a forum for women with breast cancer in Darwin on 18 July, 2009 at the Darwin Convention Centre, with over 60 women with breast cancer and their supporters attending the event. The forum was a great oppotunity for women to network with each other, gain information on breast cancer, and to learn more about BCNA and the ANZ BCTG.
Speakers at the forum included Dr Dennis Slamon, Eminent Cancer Specialist, University of California (USA), Assoc. Professor Fran Boyle AM, Medical Oncologist, Michelle Marven, BCNA Policy Manager and Leonie Young, ANZ BCTG Consumer Advisory Panel.

Perth Forum – A forum for women with early breast cancer
Another successful forum was held in Perth on 4 June, 2009 at the Western Australia Maritime Museum. BCNA would like to thank all of our members who attended the Perth Forum ‘A forum for women with early breast cancer’.
The forum was a great success with BCNA CEO Lyn Swinburne, Olympian and breast cancer survivor Raelene Boyle, Assoc. Professor Michael Bilous, Dr Andrew Redfern and breast cancer survivor and author Dr. Stephanie Dowrick delivering valuable information and insights to attendees.

Adelaide Forum – A forum for women with breast cancer
BCNA held a forum for women with breast cancer in Adelaide on 3 June, 2009. The forum was held at the National Wine Centre, with over 400 women with breast cancer and their supporters attending the event. The forum was a great success and provided an opportunity for women to obtain information on breast cancer, socialise with other women and to learn more about BCNA.
Speakers at the forum included BCNA CEO Lyn Swinburne, Olympian and breast cancer survivor Raelene Boyle, Medical Oncologist Dr Tabitha Healey and also author and breast cancer survivor Dr. Stephanie Dowrick.

Canberra Forum - Living well beyond breast cancer
BCNA held a very successful forum in the ACT on Thursday 23 April. The focus topics were centered around living well beyond breast cancer and speakers included BCNA CEO Lyn Swinburne, Olympian and breast cancer survivor Raelene Boyle, Medical Oncologist Fran Boyle and author and breast cancer survivor Dr Stephanie Dowrick.
The forum was held at The National Library of Australia and was attended by 300 participants. BCNA received an overwhelming response from the people that attended, many of them saying the forum content was insightful and very beneficial.

Bendigo Forum - Living well beyond breast cancer
BCNA's ‘Living well beyond breast cancer' forum was held in Bendigo on 25 March, 2009. The Foundry Hotel Platinum Room was bursting at the seams, with over 200 women with breast cancer and their supporters attending from as far as Swan Hill and Deniliquin in NSW, with a busload of women arriving from Avoca. The forum provided a great opportunity for women to talk with each other and connect with local groups, as well as getting information on living well beyond breast cancer.
BCNA CEO Lyn Swinburne spoke about the work of BCNA and some of the challenges that women face when they are living with breast cancer. Olympian and breast cancer survivor Raelene Boyle spoke about her personal journey with breast cancer. Medical Oncologist Dr Mark Warren spoke about what women need to think about following treatment for breast cancer up until, and beyond, the five-year mark. The forum finished with an inspiring recording of a presentation by Author and breast cancer survivor Dr. Stephanie Dowrick. Stephanie's ever popular books and CD's can be ordered through her website, www.stephaniedowrick.com > bookshop.

Sydney Forum - Insights into breast cancer pathology
BCNA would like to thank all of our members who attended the Sydney Forum ‘Insights into breast cancer pathology’. The forum was a great success with Assoc. Professor Michael Bilous, Assoc. Professor Fran Boyle and breast cancer survivor and author Dr. Stephanie Dowrick delivering valuable information and insights to attendees.
'I'm very appreciative of how well the Forum was organised and run and of course thoroughly enjoyed Michael, Fran and Stephanie's talks'.
Prior to the forum we were overwhelmed with interest and consequently the event was booked out within three days. BCNA are now considering holding a second Sydney Forum in the later half of the year. Those who missed out on the opportunity to attend on Saturday will be given priority to attend this second event and BCNA will be in contact as plans are finalised.
