Harnessing Hope ~ Overcoming Hurdles Print E-mail

Women from across Melbourne and wider Victoria gathered on Tuesday July 31 for the first ‘Harnessing Hope and Overcoming Hurdles' forum for women living with secondary breast cancer. Many were accompanied by their partners, husbands, family and friends. They heard about the latest treatment and care options, and strategies to ‘get the most out of life'. Most importantly, the women left the day with their Hope & Hurdles Pack.

As described in an edition of the Beacon, the forum was the major feature of the launch of our new Hope & Hurdles Pack, the first resource of its kind in Australia for women with secondary breast cancer.

Presentations by BCNA's CEO Lyn Swinburne, Maria Waters, secondary breast cancer survivor for 15 years and member of BCNA's Advanced Breast Cancer Working Party, Dr Jacquie Chirgwin, a Melbourne medical oncologist and Dr Craig Hassed, Melbourne GP and wellbeing advocate provided a great deal of useful information for women and inspired them to think about their support and self care.  We have their presentations available to download.

Women with secondary breast cancer who are Inside Story subscribers will receive an invitation to attend the forum in their state. Others can register their interest by phoning 1800 500 258 (freecall) or emailing This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . We would love as many women as possible to attend, so please help us spread the word.
