If you have used the SATT Program before and would like to request an Advocate please complete the  doc Request a BCNA Advocate 79.00 Kb form.

If you are thinking of involving an Advocate but haven't used our Seat at the Table Program before - please read on.

Who do Advocates Represent?

BCNA's SATT Program maintains a register of women throughout Australia who have a range of experiences and are trained to represent the broad views of Australians affected by breast cancer. It is important to know that our Advocates are not just expressing personal opinions but are speaking for a defined, wider group of consumers.

Trained & Supported

Advocates have completed BCNA's Advocates Training Program - they have strong communication skills, knowledge of breast cancer issues and the ability to reflect the needs, viewpoints and concerns of Australians affected by breast cancer.

Our Advocates are supported by the SATT Program Coordinator and BCNA's Policy Team. They are responsible for reporting back to BCNA on their involvement.

Why involve an Advocate?

Including a woman who has had breast cancer and is able to represent the views of many women across the country in your group can help you provide a better service.

BCNA aims to include Advocates in all types of committees and forums: clinical, administrative, research and policy.  We are happy to provide Advocates for one off consultations or ongoing committees, working groups or advisory boards.

An Advocate is one more voice at the table who brings particular expertise.  Advocates comes informed with the issues raised by BCNA's 23,000 members. Advocates will confidently engage in discussions with committee/group members and contribute in a thoughtful manner, considering the views of all committee/group members.

Including an Advocate on your committee will ensure the voices and opinions of people affected by breast cancer are sought, heard and valued. There is no cost for this service, however we ask that the Advocate's travel, parking, or accommodation costs are covered.

How do I request an Advocate?

Requests for Advocates can be made using the  doc Request a BCNA Advocate 79.00 Kb form.

Please allow approximately four weeks for the recruitment and selection process.

Once we have selected an appropriate Advocate we will contact you and provide a brief background about the appointed Advocate.  You can then make personal contact with the Advocate and advise them of meeting schedules and other relevant information.

Program Coordinator

The SATT Program Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, selecting, training, supporting and appointing Advocates. The SATT Coordinator manages all requests for Advocate involvement and provides a link between health organisations and our Advocates.
