Through Breast Cancer Network Australia's (BCNA) Seat at the Table (SATT) Program women who have had breast cancer have had the opportunity to speak up, get involved, represent BCNA and support our work.
The Seat at the Table title came from the idea that women who have experienced breast cancer should contribute to any decisions about breast cancer treatment, care or services. Women should sit at the same table as other decision makers so that their experiences are heard and included. Through this important Program we have been able to influence researchers, doctors, policy makers and others involved in breast cancer treatment, care and services.
Over the years the SATT Program has expanded. Hundreds of women involved in our Program have contributed in different ways, bringing their varying experiences, skills and time.
Get Involved
The SATT Program offers various roles for interested women to get involved. Women might tell their story to a local newspaper to help us launch a new program, attend a community event or review a breast cancer book. Some represent us on committees, research groups or working parties. We are also interested in involving other people affected by breast cancer in the Program. This might be partners or other family members of women with breast cancer or those with a strong family history of breast cancer. To learn more about the different roles go to the Get Involved section.
For Health Organisations
Health organisations are invited to request the involvement of BCNA's Advocates to assist them in developing responsive services, treatment and research. All BCNA Advocates are trained and supported in their role by the SATT Program Coordinator. See Health Organisations for more information and a request form.
In the Community
Community groups go to great efforts to help raise awareness of breast cancer, and often incorporate fundraising efforts. The SATT Program can support such events by providing a Community Liaison to speak about their personal experience of breast cancer and BCNA's services for women. See Community Events for more information and a request form.
