My Journey Kit FAQs: for Women Print E-mail
What is the My Journey Kit?

The My Journey Kit is a comprehensive information resource, developed by women who have had breast cancer for women newly diagnosed. We aim to get the Kit to everyone diagnosed with breast cancer in Australia as close as possible to their diagnosis.

What's in the My Journey Kit?

The My Journey Kit has three main elements:

My Journey Information Guide is a spiral bound booklet that guides women to information and support resources that others who have experienced breast cancer have found helpful. It also provides tips gained from experience to help throughout the breast cancer journey.

My Journey Personal Record is a handbag sized spiral bound booklet for recording details of past medical history and contact details, treatment and any side effects experienced, tests and results and questions to ask the health care team. It also contains a calendar to record appointments and a form to keep track of medical and treatment expenses.

My Journey Satchel is a convenient place to store copies of test results, My Journey Information Guide and any other documents to save along the way.

Also included are:

  • A sheet listing state-based services for women
  • National Breast Cancer Centre's booklet: A Guide for Women with Early Breast Cancer
  • The Beacon - BCNAs free quarterly magazine
  • A range of BCNAs brochures

How much does the My Journey Kit cost?

The Kit is available free of charge to women who have been diagnosed in the past 12 months.

Why is the My Journey Kit only available to those diagnosed in the past 12 months?

The My Journey Kit has been developed to inform and empower women newly diagnosed with breast cancer, which is when we believe the Kit is of most benefit. The Kit is not appropriate for women who were diagnosed over 12 months ago.

Can a friend, family member or health professional order a Kit on my behalf?

We would prefer that the person who has been diagnosed with breast cancer orders the My Journey Kit themselves as we can only provide one Kit per person. If you would prefer a friend or family member to call on your behalf that is fine, they just need your permission. We don't like to send Kits to women who are not expecting them.

Is the My Journey Kit suitable for women with secondary breast cancer?

The My Journey Kit was written for women diagnosed with early breast cancer. BCNA's provides the Hope & Hurdles Pack, which is a resource available for women living with secondary breast cancer (also known as advanced or metastatic breast cancer). Read More...

Is My Journey Kit suitable for men with breast cancer?

The My Journey Kit was written with women in mind, simply because over 13,000 Australian women will be diagnosed each year, compared with less than 105 men. However, it is available to men as well and it's likely that men (and their partners) will find the information in the Kit helpful. We also have a Supplementary Pack available for men with breast cancer. This can be obtained by calling 1800 500 258.
