YOUNG ACTION on BREAST CANCER
2 Day National Conference 13 - 14 October 2007: Up Close and Personal 2
Melbourne
This is the first ever National event specifically for young pre-menopausal breast cancer survivors. The event will bring expert speakers from around Australia to present the latest information on reproduction, menopause, relationships and sexual issues, and their related psychosocial issues, as well as stories from young women who have first hand experience.
Scholarships will be available through some of YABC's partner organisations to assist interstate delegates, as well as Victorian rural and regional women wishing to attend. YABC are working very hard towards making this a free event to ensure accessibility for all young women.
Registration will be available online at the end of June. An Evening Celebration is planned for the Saturday night so that women can come together with fellow breast cancer survivors to enjoy a chat, a laugh and even a chance to get out on the dance floor; YABC Divas will be taking to the stage throughout the Conference showcasing their latest theatrical creations.
Registration Details Coming this June: http://www.yabc2007conference.org/

Use of Luteinising-Hormone-Releasing Hormone Agonists as Adjuvant Treatment in Premenopausal Patients with Hormone-Receptor-Positive Breast Cancer: A Meta-Analysis of Individual Patient Data from Randomised Adjuvant Trials
In The Lancet: luteinising-hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) agonists (molecules which mimic the action of luteinising hormone and block the signal for ovarian production of oestrogen) are effective when combined with chemotherapy or tamoxifen used in the treatment of hormone receptor positive breast cancer.
You can read the abstract by clicking on the link above. Please register to The Lancet to access abstracts and selected full text articles. Registration is free.

A Survey of Patient Satisfaction and Use of the Internet for Health Information
In the International Journal of Clinical Practice: a multidisciplinary survey of the use of the Internet for health information was designed by researchers to investigate patients/carers' use of the Internet and other sources for health information, to determine how useful health information over the Internet was to patients/carers and to assess the potential use of validated health information on the Internet by patients.

Association Between Reproductive Factors and Breast Cancer Survival in Younger Women
In Breast Cancer Research and Treatment: this analysis investigated whether reproductive factors such as age at menarche, parity, and timing and outcomes of pregnancies were associated with survival among women with breast cancer younger than 55 years. Female residents of Atlanta, Georgia, and central New Jersey who were diagnosed with a primary, incident invasive breast cancer between 1990 and 1992 and enrolled in a population-based study (n = 1,264) were followed for 8-10 years. Detailed exposure and covariate information was collected via in-person interviews administered shortly after diagnosis.

Patient Centred Experiences in Breast Cancer: Predicting Long-Term Adherence to Tamoxifen Use
In Medical Care: among breast cancer patients, tamoxifen use is associated with reduced risk of disease relapse and death, but it is often difficult for women to sustain therapy during the five years required to obtain maximum benefit.

Many Women Quit Tamoxifen Prematurely
In A Cancer Journal for Clinicians: a significant number of women who begin taking tamoxifen stop taking the drug well before completing the usual five-year course of therapy. In this study of pharmacy records for 2,816 women with a new tamoxifen prescription, 22.1% stopped taking the drug within the first year of treatment, and 35.2% had quit by 3.5 years.
