In-Home Child Care
In-Home Child Care is a form of child care provided in the child's home by an approved carer and is only available to families that have no other child care options. You may be eligible if you:
- live in rural and remote Australia;
- work non-standard hours (e.g. police, fire fighters, nurses, doctors, musicians, people who work in retail and security personnel);
- have multiple children under school age; and
- have a serious, chronic or terminal illness.
For these families, finding a 24 hour long day care centre or a family day carer able to take children overnight is not always possible. Sensitive options are also essential for parents or children who become seriously or chronically ill.
In-Home Child Care is a targeted form of child care where an approved carer provides care in the child's home. It is only available for families who do not have access to an existing child care service, or where an existing service cannot meet their needs.
In-Home Child Care is for children from birth to 12 years who live within the family unit. Care for children older than 12 years can be provided through this program in special or emergency situations. Families accessing care through an approved In Home Care service are able to receive Child Care Benefit (CCB).
In-Home Child Care is a national child care program with services available throughout metropolitan, rural and remote Australia. It can only be accessed through an approved local service provider. To find a local service provider in your area contact the Child Care Access Hotline on 1800 670 305 or your local FaCS office on 1300 653 227.
Your local service provider will determine your eligibility status based on the guidelines from the Child Care Handbook.
