Increased child care hours and/or the Special Child Care Benefit (eligibility criteria apply).
During treatment you might find that you need extra assistance with child care.
If you already receive Child Care Benefit (CCB) and need to increase the number of hours that you use child care in any week, then talk to your child care provider about whether you might be eligible for extra hours of CCB under the ‘exceptional circumstances' provision. To apply for extra hours under ‘exceptional circumstances' you will need to complete the ‘Exceptional circumstances - claim for increased eligible hours and/or Special Child Care Benefit' form (FAO23 form) available from your child care provider.
If your illness has caused financial hardship and you are having difficulties paying your portion of child care fees then you may also be eligible for up to 13 weeks of Special Child Care Benefit (SCCB). Again, you should talk to your child care provider who can approve up to 13 weeks of SCCB. Periods in excess of 13 weeks will need to be approved by the Family Assistance Office (13 61 50).
If your children are not in approved child care and you would like to access approved child care while you are receiving treatment, contact the Child Care Access Hotline on 1800 670 305 and they will provide you with details of approved child care services in your area.
