Our Member Groups are consumer-driven: they are made up of women with breast cancer and generally led by them. Most are support groups, others are advocacy or action groups. Associate Member Groups are generally established to help or support women with breast cancer.
Breast Cancer Network Australia is always keen to welcome groups that work to support those affected by breast cancer as member groups. BCNA is the national voice of Australians affected by breast cancer. The more people and groups we have behind us the more powerful our voice. When we speak about breast cancer - to government, the media, the community or corporations we currently say we represent over 26,000 individual members and more than 185 member groups. These are powerful figures! We’d like to add your group.
Is there a cost to become a member group?
There is no cost to become either a member group or an associate member group.
How will you benefit from becoming a member group?
- You will receive a comprehensive quarterly update about breast cancer issues and our activities.
- Your group details will be included on the BCNA website - this will increase the chance that local women will find out about your group.
- To assist your group with fundraising you can buy our pink lady badges for $2.50 (rather than the regular price of $5.00)
- You will be invited to join us at special national and state based activities.
What’s the difference between a member group and an associate group?
Member groups are ‘consumer driven’, that is they are made up of women with breast cancer and generally led by them. Many are support groups, but others are also advocacy or action groups, eg Breast Cancer Action Group and Fenceliners.
Associate groups are generally established to help/support women with breast cancer. The Otis Foundation is an example of an Associate group. The Foundation consists of a Board of Directors who work (independently from government) to raise funds and properly manage a property which is then used as a retreat by women affected by breast cancer.
If your group would like to support BCNA’s work and enjoy member benefits please complete the member group application form 42.86 Kb and return it to Breast Cancer Network Australia.
Once your group has been accepted as a member you will receive a Member Group Welcome Kit. You will also be acknowledged as a new member group in The Beacon, our quarterly magazine.
The Member Group Welcome Kit includes:
- A BCNA Information Kit
- A copy of the My Journey Kit and promotional postcards
- A copy of the Hope & Hurdles Pack and promotional postcards
- 5 complimentary pink lady badges
- 5 copies of the latest issue of The Beacon and The Inside Story
