Information for researchers

Review & Survey Group

BCNA's Review & Survey Group allows women to be involved in breast cancer research and researchers to find participants who are willing to get involved.

For researchers, the group is a way to access over 1,000 motivated women from all around Australia who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and interested in finding out about research opportunities.

Most researchers using our group find that they are able to recruit participants quickly and easily.

When considering whether your research proposal is suitable to send to our Review & Survey Group, there are a number of key criteria that BCNA will take into account.

  • Have you received ethics approval for this research?
  • Do you have funding or adequate resourcing to undertake this project?
  • Has there been consumer input into the development of the research project?
  • Is the research breast cancer specific?
  • Is the research focused on an issue that is important to women with breast cancer?
  • Is the research cancer specific and does it address issues faced by all cancer patients? (i.e. support, access to treatment, location and quality information)
  • Does the request involve reviewing new resources for women and their family members who have been affected by breast cancer or cancer?
  • Will the research help to influence and inform breast cancer policy, practice, or treatment to directly benefit women?
  • Does the research complement previous research and add to a growing body of evidence?
  • Does the research duplicate previous research or resources?
  • Does the research involve qualitative components and provides our members with a chance to share their experiences?

Applications

To submit your research for consideration, please download and complete the Review & Survey Request form and email it to BCNA's Policy team: policy@bcna.org.au.

Once BCNA receives the form we will assess the request and advise you of an outcome within two weeks. When assessing the request we look to see that the research is in line with a number of the conditions above.

A key condition of using this group is that BCNA receives a simple written summary of your findings in a timely manner, which we provide to the women in the Review & Survey Group that we have contacted on your behalf. When BCNA has accepted the proposal, we will be in contact to discuss the next steps.

While BCNA is keen to be involved with research opportunities, unfortunately we can't support all requests that we receive.

Review & Survey Group

"I was very privileged to have access to the BCNA Review and Survey group. It was a fantastic resource for my research for many reasons. It was a willing group (my response rate was 49% with a sample size of more than 800). I also had the benefit of a known denominator and an Australia wide perspective."

-- Robyn Sierla, Senior Occupational Therapist, Breast Cancer Research Group, The University of Sydney.

"I just want to pass on my thanks to you for the great job you do. I really appreciated receiving the results from the research I participated in -- it's very interesting and satisfying. It makes me even more determined to continue to participate in the research opportunities you send me."

-- Review & Survey Group member
