UK: Field of Women LIVE - Liverpool - Sunday 6 July 2008

It has been exciting for BCNA to see our very own Field of Women LIVE concept taken up by the people of Liverpool, UK. Thousands stood together on the Liverpool Cricket Ground as a fundraiser for the Linda McCartney Cancer Centre, a breast cancer treatment and research centre at The Royal Liverpool Hospital.

BCNA worked with the organisers to help make their event a resounding success. Our CEO Lyn Swinburne visited the Centre last year and saw the great work they are doing for women and families with breast cancer.

We were also fortunate to have Lyn's dear friend, and fellow breast cancer survivor, Prue Holyman, attend the event to represent BCNA. Prue did media interviews in the run-up and shared her experiences of standing in the Field on the MCG in 2005. Importantly, she told people about BCNA's work and what we are trying to achieve for women all those miles away.

Cyprus: Mini-Fields of Women

Since 2004, a group of women from Europa Donna Cyprus has been holding Mini-Fields of Women in prominent locations, such as the Cyprus Parliament. The Mini-Fields are part of a ceremony aimed at improving breast cancer awareness amongst Cypriot women. BCNA is delighted to know that the Pink Lady is seen in the streets of Cyprus.

Kenya: AMREF Mini-Field of Women

BCNA volunteer Bridey Kerwick is working with AMREF (African Medical and Research Foundation) in Nairobi and is organising a  Mini-Field of Women event. During the event BCNA's pink lady silhouettes will be on display, a doctor from the local hospital will demonstrate breast self examination and a cancer survivor will share her personal breast cancer story. The event is scheduled for November. Many thanks to Bridey and her helpers. Keep your eye on the website for photos.

Scotland: Scottish Pink Lady

With BCNA's permission, the Scottish Breast Cancer Campaign has adopted our Pink Lady as its symbol, dressing her in a tartan kilt! You can visit their website to see the Scottish Pink Lady.

South Africa

Women in Soweto, South Africa, held a silent walk for breast cancer in November 2009. BCNA's Pink Lady silhouettes were flown in especially for the occasion.
