In 2008, standards were developed to assist radiation oncology facilities in providing the highest quality of care possible to people who are being treated for cancer.
In August 2011 the standards were launched.
Feedback has now been sought from stakeholders on the preferred implementation approach. In particular:
- the preferred way to assess radiation oncology facilities against the standards
- the preferred governance body to oversee the assessment program, and
- whether participation by radiation oncology facilities should be voluntary or mandatory
BCNA provided feedback with the help of BCNA Consumer Representative Susan Timbs, who is also involved with The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) National Breast Cancer Audit (NBCA) which also developed a process to review surgeon performance against standards.
BCNA will continue to monitor the implementation of the Radiation Oncology Practice Standards, and provide updates on this webpage when they become available.
