CHF Our Health, Our Communities Project

Consumers Health Forum of Australia (CHF) is the peak national body representing the interests of Australian healthcare consumers. It works to achieve safe, quality, timely healthcare for all Australians, supported by accessible health information and systems.

CHF has received funding through the Australian Government's health reform package to train and support 120 consumer representatives to contribute to the governance structures of the new National Health and Hospitals Network. To support this training program, CHF intends to develop an interactive online website to support CHF members in their advocacy work.

CHF prepared a consultation paper seeking feedback from the community about this project. In particular, they sought comment on:

  • the information needs of consumers to help them navigate the health system
  • how consumers would like to have a say on health reform
  • the training and support needs of consumer representatives working on high level governance structures of the National Health and Hospitals Network.

BCNA is in an ideal position to assist CHF with this project and presented a submission in response to a consultation paper. We have also offered to share with CHF our experiences in training and supporting consumer representatives, gained over many years through our Seat at the Table program.
